Médoc wines are elegant, harmonious and full of character. They have a rich palette of flavors and aromas that continue to develop with age, i.e. as the wine matures in the bottle. Many of them have great ageing potential. Wines at their peak offer an unforgettable experience for all lovers of opulent wines. Everything begins and comes from the terroir. Our estate makes the best to reveal the unique character of the Médoc terroir. It’s a unique combination of soil, water, air and microclimate. Thanks to the alchemy of these natural elements, the vines flourish. This is what gives rise to our excellent wine.
The climatic conditions are ideal, as we’re located on the 45th parallel, equidistant from the pole and the equator. The climate is temperate, providing the vines with plenty of humidity and warmth throughout their growth cycle. This allows the grapes to reach a perfect ripeness.
The wind, which blows in from the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde, cools the grapes in the heat of summer and protects them from disease on rainy days. The landscape is shaped by gentle slopes and the soils are made up of gravel, a mixture of sand, clay, small pebbles and rocks, making it easier for rainwater to run off.
The various components of the soil nourish the vines, eliminate excess water and transmit the heat accumulated to the grapes. All the vineyards are systematically and deliberately replanted to produce perfect grapes.
Like all the great wines of Bordeaux, Château ESCOT wines are influenced by vintages. However, year after year they retain their own identity, the essence of which is the complexity and elegance of their sensory expression. Although the climate has warmed in recent years, climatic conditions throughout the Médoc have never been so favorable for the vineyards. Thanks to the current warmer summers, the grapes are achieving a perfect balance between acidity and ripeness.
The vineyards of Château ESCOT are located halfway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde Estuary. The vineyards are spread over three localities: Lesparre, Civrac and Saint Christoly, and are planted with red grape varieties with an average age of forty years.
The only exception is the establishment in 2020 of a white vineyard of 0.89 hectares.
The vineyards in Lesparre cover an area of about 11 hectares. The plots are situated close to the chateau building and the wine estate. The soil composition is mainly dominated by sands. Clay, limestone and coarser sands are also present in some areas.
The vineyard is planted with red grape varieties (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) and white grape varieties (Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris), which are used to produce our Forêt ESCOT and Château ESCOT white wines.
The Civrac vineyard covers around 3.4 hectares. The site is located 8 km north-west of the estate. The soil is made up of sand, clay and limestone. This is the ideal terroir for the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that go into the Forêt ESCOT and Château ESCOT Cru Bourgeois blends.
The vineyard, covering around 23 hectares, is located in the village of Saint-Christoly, a dozen kilometers from Château ESCOT and the town of Lesparre. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a parcel of Petit Verdot reign supreme. The vineyards face the Gironde estuary. Saint-Christoly is the backbone of Château ESCOT Cru Bourgeois.
The soil composition of the different plots is highly varied: clay, gravel, pebbles and fine sand. Around 11% of the surface area has been grubbed up and is waiting to be replanted.
